Oremus: Gratiam tuam quƦsumus, Domine,
mentibus nostris infunde;

per passionem eius et crucem,
ad resurrectionis gloriam perducamur.
Per eumdem Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen

St Severian, Bishop of Scythopolis, Martyr (A.D.453)
February 21:
IN the year 451 the fourth general council was called at Chalcedon to pronounce upon the Eutychian or monophysite heresy which was spreading very rapidly in the Eastern portion of the Church. Dioceses were being split into factories which, in some cases, elected rival bishops and refused communion to their opponents. The decision of the council, which totally condemned the heresy, was accepted at once by a great proportion of the Palestinian monks, but there were many exceptions. At the head of these was Theodosius, a violent and unscrupulous Jerusalem, and to gain possession of the see for himself. He then raised so cruel a persecution in Jerusalem that he filled the city with blood, as we learn from a carry desolation over the country, although in certain places he met with opponents who had the courage to stand firm in their orthodoxy. Of these no one showed more determination than Severian, Bishop of Scythopolis, who received as his reward the crown of martyrdom. The soldiers seized him, dragged him out of the city, and put him to death.
Penance
The Sacrament by which, as a repentant sinner, I receive forgiveness even of a mortal sin, and thus become again a living member of Christ's Mystical Body. Tonight, therefore, I shall examine my conscience in preparation for a full confession, realizing that I must have a genuine sorrow for sin, together with a determination to sin no more.
ETERNAL Father, I offer Thee the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with all Its Love, all Its sufferings and all Its merits:
TO EXPIATE all the sins I have committed this day, and during all my life. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the Beginning it is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
TO PURIFY all the good I have done in my poor way this day, and during all my life. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the Beginning it is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
TO MAKE UP for the good I ought to have done and that I have neglected this day, and during all my life. Glory be to the Father and to the son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the Beginning it is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
